020: Starlight and Moonlight

I'm sparkling like starlight and moonlight combined! I probably shouldn't admit just how much time I spent dancing around in one of the underground rooms in the Library with all the lights off, just so I can see how it looked!


Tony? Today, yes, I am beautiful and special!

Tony flew them over the City, spinning and looping around so that she could shine against the different surfaces.

"We are shimmering," he said. "Especially you."

She laughed, wishing she could reach out and hug everything tightly to her. She was so happy - she didn't remember ever being so happy ever before.

"I wish this moment could last forever!"

Tony didn't quite agree with that statement, but he did wish she could feel like this all the time. Glancing down, Tony saw something that bothered him.

"Rain... down there..."

She glanced down and her breath caught. "What is that? It doesn't look good."

"That looks like someone being attacked," Tony said, frowning at it all. He couldn't stand by and just watch it happen, but he didn't want to endanger Rain.

"Can you hold on tight?"

She nodded and wrapped her arms around him as tightly as she could manage. "I'm good," she assured him. "Worry about helping them."

Tony nodded and dropped to street level. Auto-targeting immediately selected the vampire and a blast of energy from his hand caught it in the chest. He wasn't sure if it could regenerate but he figured that even if it could, it would take a while to come back from that. The victim was already running away to safety.

"That was your first rescue," Tony said. "How do you feel about it?"

"My heart is pounding like crazy," she admitted, "and it was really scary, but I'm so glad we saved them!"

Tony held her a bit closer at the mention of how scared she was, but he knew it was a bit of a rush too.

"I always love that feeling, knowing that you helped someone."

"You're a good person," she said firmly. "I'm glad we were here to help."

She was glad he was holding onto her more tightly. It made her feel safer.

"You're a good person to," he said. "You wanted to help and you don't even have a suit of armor."

She turned her head to look at him, rather surprised. "Oh, that's right. I guess... I don't think of it as armor. It's just you."

"It is me," Tony said, realizing again how much she saw him as two separate people. "It's me inside a suit of armor."

"Right. Yes," she said, frowning a little. "I forget. I'm sorry."

Tony tilted his head a bit, giving her a puzzled look. "What are you sorry for?"

"That I don't remember you're the same, even though you keep reminding me."

"It doesn't bother me," he told her, which it didn't. It was just how she did things. Occasionally it worried him, and it often puzzled him, but it didn't bother him. "It helps anyways with keep up experiences for the secret identity."

She nodded. "Right. I would never tell anyone. I promise."

"I know you wouldn't," he told her. "I never even worried about it for a second that you would."

"Good," she said contentedly. "I wouldn't ever want you to worry about me."

"I worry about you all the time," he chuckled. "But I never worry about you doing something that would hurt me. Now are you ready to fly some more?"

"Why do you worry about me?" she asked in some surprise. "Because of the woods? I'm very careful."

"Yes! Let's fly more so we can sparkle over the city!"

"I worry about you because I care about you," he replied before he started to rise up off the ground again.

"And yes, everyone needs to see you sparkle!"

"Oh..." She thought about that for a minute. "That's very nice of you. But... I don't worry about you and I care about you a lot. But it's just because you're so safe, I think."

She giggled and clung to him as they rose once more. "Flying!"

"The only thing I need saving from is myself," he said as he began to move out over the city. "But you're protecting me from that, so I'm not worried."
