0128: Where's the big people? [accidental video]

I think somebody's gon' be in big big trouble.

I woke up this morning and there was No Big People! There's 'posed to be somebody here if Mommy has to go away for a while.

Who's gon' make me lunch? I got some cereal for breafest and only made a little bit of a mess, but I'm not 'posed to use the stove or anything.

Isabel took his hand trustingly and tugged him further into the house. "Silly," she said, smiling up at him. "Not on the floor - 'less you want to. You can sit on the 'ofa or the comfy chairs or at the table."

Then she turned to Romana. "Maybe a grilled cheese and some chicken soup? Do you like grilled cheese and chicken soup, Mister Master?"

He had to hunch over slightly to allow her to continue holding his hand but it really was worth it. "I could try the table," he said and then smirked, and added, "But I'm not very good at table manners." Once he's started eating...he needs to keep going.

"I like both of those things, yes." He's trying so hard to behave himself. Romana should be praising him. "I prefer chicken to cheese, though, the...the meat." Again. Miraculous restraint.

Romana found the last of the necessary ingredients without difficulty, setting the pan to heat on the stove and the soup in a saucepan. Keeping an eye on the Master while cooking wasn't too difficult. Once she'd decided to approach cooking like a chemistry experiment, it came quite easily.

There was... something, though to the way he was speaking that concerned her as she pulled some additional foods out of the refrigerator.

She put one little hand on her hip and looked up at him. "You need to mind your manners," Isabel said firmly. "Use you napkin and say please and thank you and don't talk with you mouth full. Can you do that?"

She pointed over at 'Mana. "See, she's making us good food and you can have chicken soup if you want."

"I can do those things," said the Master. "It's speed that's the issue." He sat down in front of her, cross-legged. "I am a very fast eater." He'll be messy no matter what. So they should know. "Looks like she is." Soup might be difficult to eat quickly, though. Surely they won't dare make him use a spoon.

Romana swiftly finishes the preparations, making three plates with bowls full of soup along side. She even made sure Isabel's sandwich was cut small to help her.

"Mister Master," she intones, using Isabel's new name for him. "If you would help me bring these to the table, we can eat."

Isabel patted Mister Master on his head gently. "I'm sure you'll try hard to be a good boy," she said encouragingly.

"Oooh, 'Mana! It smells so good!"

Allowing Isabel to pat his head, the Master laughed softly at her words. "Oh, I am trying," he said fervently. "I am trying so hard."

But his expression went abruptly very serious when Romana asked for his help. If he could do this around hundreds of walking foods every day...he could do it over lunch, yes? He paused a moment longer before pushing himself to his feet and pacing over to the kitchen to stare down at the food. His mouth opened slightly as he looked at it and then, biting his lower lip until it bled slightly, he carried two sandwiches over to the table. Best not to trust himself with the soup, yet.

Was his lip bleeding? Romana watched the Master take the food to the table as she picked up two of the bowls of soup and followed. Granted it had been awhile since the last time they'd communicated, but these changes... and with what he'd told her.

Unbidden, her mind began searching through everything she knew about Time Lord physiology. She wasn't a physician by any means, but she'd studied extensively and there had to be something...

Isabel climbed up onto one of the chairs and carefully put a napkin in her lap. "Thank you, 'Mana. It was very very nice of you to come make this for us."

The Master turned to look back at the remaining soup and sandwich and then leaned over to Romana. "I'm going to take them outside," he said, matter-of-factly. He did not want her to watch him eating. She'd probably analyse it. Ugh.

He gave Romana a look that was reminiscent of a wild animal, wary and feral, licked his bleeding lip thoughtfully, and then walked hurriedly over to the food in the kitchen and picked it up.

If it were possible, Romana's eyebrows would have shot into her hairline. As it was, her eyes widened at the look. It was so... at odds with his reputation. Cold, calculating, and logical now he seemed... barely in control.

But she couldn't focus on that, not while Rain was so young and needed looking after. So while she'd rather follow the Master and get more details on this resurrection of his, she instead sat at the table next to Isabel.

Isabel watched him go. "I think maybe he's shy," she said matter-of-factly.

The Master heard Rain as he headed for the door and smirked to himself. Leaving the house and shutting the door behind him, he headed to just beside the house, where he leaned against the hillside, ate the sandwich in about 20 seconds, and then pondered the soup. Eventually, he solved the problem by bringing the bowl up to his mouth to drink the broth with both hands before finger-picking all of the pieces out of it and cramming them into his mouth.

Real food. It was nice. Very nice. He wiped his mouth on his sleeve, stood up holding the plate and bowl, and peered around the corner back into the house through the clear panel.

All he'd see is Romana eating her lunch, and helping Isabel where necessary.

Isabel waved to him happily. "Come in, Mister Master!" she yelled, forgetting briefly the No Talking with Food in the Mouth rule.

The Master ducked his head, and then slid the door back open to slip in, walk over, and put his plates into the kitchen sink. Plates which he might have possibly licked clean.

"Hello, again," he said, walking over and sitting at the table, leaning his chin on his hands, elbows on the table. "I didn't have to leave for very long."

Romana paused in between sips of soup when he re-entered.

"Finished so soon?"

"No belbows on the table, please," Rain said, giving him a small frown. "But I'm glad you came back in."

"Oh, Romana, I was starving," said the Master, seriously. "I took it outside. I made no mess. Yes, I'm finished."

He looked at Rain, and then took his elbows off the table, hugging himself with his arms, and hunching his shoulders. "Thank you."

"I hope you enjoyed it."

Romana took another bite before turning her attention to Isabel, a smile on her face. Perhaps this day wouldn't be a difficult as she feared.

"And what do you want to do after lunch, Isabel? It's cold, but nice outside if you'd like to play?"

Re: Action

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2010-02-24 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Isabel smiled at Mister Master before turning back to 'Mana. "Outside is good! I can play with the trees!"

"I did," said the Master. Which he had. It was completely better than garbage.

He looked at Isabel searchingly a moment. "With them or in them?"

"I believe she means to do both, right Isabel?" It may be her ascribing Rain's unique habits to Isabel, but she was fairly certain that she was accurate in her assumption.

Re: Action

Isabel nodded and threw up both of her hands. "BOTH!" she yelled cheerfully.
