070: [Accidental Video Post]

Rain is sitting curled up on a rock deep, deep in the woods, very far from her own home. Her backpack is beside her, her batteries held tightly in one hand, as she stares off into the trees. If one were to listen carefully, you could probably hear the low whisper of a chant.

Tony flew out to where Rain was the instant he saw the video post. He had no idea what could be bothering her but he didn't care, all he knew was that she was in distress. He landed a short ways from her and walked up to her.

"Rain?"

She'd heard him coming, she always knew when he was close, so she turned and smiled at him a little sadly. "Iron Man, hello."

Tony frowned behind the mask at how distressed she obviously was. He was torn between the urge to comfort her and to find out what was making her feel like this and destroy it.

"Would you like a hug?" he asked.

She nodded, but couldn't quite make herself get up and go to him.

Tony sat down next to her and put an arm around her before pulling her in close to him.

"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked softly.

She curled into him tightly, wrapping her arms around him, but shook her head. "Just want you to hold me," she whispered.

"Okay," he said, pulling her up into his lap. "That I can do. That I like to do."

He could probably feel the batteries against his back as she held on, but Rain didn't care. Her Iron Man was here and he made everything better.

After a long time she let out a long breath. "How did you find me?" she asked.

He just sat and held her without saying anything. He knew that sometimes just having someone else there was more help than any words.

"With the locator I gave you," he said.

She nodded.

"I didn't think I wanted to see anyone at all, but I'm glad you came."

"I'm glad you wanted to see me," he admitted, giving her a small squeeze. "I would hate to see you so upset and not be able to come to you."

She looked up at him in some surprise. "I would always want to see you. You're my best friend."

"That's good to know," he told her, leaning forward to press his forehead to hers. "Because you're mine."

That made her so happy and made her want to cry at the same time.

And made her wish for things she could never have.

Which might just have made her a little teary. Silently, though.

He just continued to hold her there, protecting her at least from the feeling of being alone.

After a while he pulled away just enough to look her in the eyes.

"Feel a bit better now?" he asked.

She nodded, but still found it a bit hard to met his eyes.

"Do you want me to stay with you tonight?" he asked.

Rain wanted to say yes more than anything, but she didn't want to go home and she didn't want Iron Man to have to stay out here in the woods all night.

"I'm just going to stay and watch the stars," she said finally. "I'm okay."

"Can I watch them with you for a little bit?" he asked. "They always look brighter to me when I'm with you."

She nodded, then looked up at him curiously. "They can't. They're just stars."

"I don't know," he said with a shrug. "Maybe that's part of how special you are. You help people see things in the best possible way."

"I wish I could believe that's true," she said quietly. "But lately I seem to be messing up all over."

"I find that hard to believe is true," he said, giving her another reassuring hug. "I think you sometimes blame yourself for things when you shouldn't."

"Not this time," she said quietly, still holding on. "I... he said I was wrong not to tell him things and that now he doesn't want to be around me anymore."

Tony gave a small sigh. Whatever it was he doubted that it was Rain's fault.

"Rain, sometimes people expect things of other people that they shouldn't," he said. "People are raised very different or they have different worlds and experiences and what one person thinks should have been said isn't universal."
