I think I'm going to go see the mountain today. Maybe not climb it, but at least to see it.

Ianto, I'm sorry I haven't been at the Library. I just... haven't wanted to leave my house for a while. I'll try to go tomorrow. Maybe I could work at night when no one's there? Straightening up and reshelving and everything? Make up some time that way?

Anyway, I'm not going to venture too far from home today. Just the mountain and right back.

Mat? I want to do something really nice for you - for being so good to me, you know? I just need to think of what.

Rain knelt down to take the dog's paw. "You must be Disreputable Dog," she said with a smile. "I'm Rain."

The Dog smiled and nodded, her tongue hanging out a bit to the side. "Nice to meet you. Now shall we explore?"

Rain nodded solemnly. "I'd like that. Why don't I follow you?"

The Dog returned the nod and trotted off towards the mountain. She didn't wait to see if Rain was following. Either the girl did or didn't, and either way, the Dog got to see this new mountain.

There was a bit of a path, more a deer track than anything else, and it was that which the Dog followed up the mountain. She stopped every so often to let Rain catch up, but always seems anxious to move on.

"You move as slow as Lirael!" she commented, though tone and facial expression reflected she was more amused than annoyed.

"Who's Lirael?" Rain asked. She kept getting sidetracked by the plants and such that she saw along the way.

The Dog trotted in a circle as she waited for Rain to catch up.

"My friend. At home. We use to explore kinda like this"

"You must miss your friend then," Rain said softly.

The Dog gave the canine equivalent of a shrug. "She needs to learn to stand on her own for a bit."

"I'm good at that," Rain said quietly. She looked up the mountain. "I don't want to go up too far today. I'm not ready to deal with monsters."

The Dog favored Rain with a long, searching looks. Seemingly satisfied with what she saw she nodded once and trotted off a bit.

"No, no monsters today."

Rain smiled and headed after the Dog. "Good," she said, "Thank you.

The Dog slowed a bit so she was walking alongside Rain. She saw no need for idle conversation, instead walking on in silence for a bit. Still, it was not in her nature to stay quiet for too long. And this girl did intrigue her.

"So where're you from?" she asked

"Everywhere," Rain said. "A world like this, but well, not, no magic or anything. And I moved all the time."
