"I had a friend, back home," Tony said, leaning against one of the bookshelves.
"Pepper Potts. She was my assistant, but she was a close friend too. And I liked her, a lot, and she knew it too. But she liked this other guy, Happy Hogan. Happy was my best friend. Part of it hurt to see them together, but... it's what they wanted. And I had to see them together for years. But you know what? It never changed that Pepper was my friend, and a very close friend."
"I'm glad she was your friend," Rain said dully. She didn't want to think about any of this, not any at all. And she knew she wasn't what Tony wanted. He didn't need to remind her. She already knew she wasn't any good.
Tony was silent for a moment. This was all a big mistake, Rain apparently didn't want to see him and he didn't want to pressure her and make her uncomfortable.
"Well, that's all I wanted to say," he said, standing up straight. "Have a good day."
She looked up at him - just a quick glance up and then down again. "I'm sorry," she said very softly. "I didn't mean to. And I'll stop. I don't know how, but I will."
"It's alright," he told her. He had hoped that he would be able to make things better with her, but apparently that wasn't going to happen, which saddened him.
"Take as much time off as you need," he said, turning to go.
But it was better. She'd talked to him and she hadn't run or cried or been unable to speak. And he hadn't been mad or scolded her or told her she was stupid or that he never wanted to see her again.
It would just take time.
"Tell... tell Iron Man I miss him and that I'm sorry to him, too, okay?" she said quietly.
Iron Man was still safer and still often somehow separate to her.
Rain watched him go, then sat abruptly down on the floor and covered her head with her arms. She rocked herself there for a while as the Library quietly sang to her.
Re: Action for the 15th
"Can I tell you a story, Rain?" he asked.
Re: Action for the 15th
She still couldn't move or even pick up her head to look at him.

"I'll be sure to do that," he said before turning back and heading out of the library.
