[01]

Had a weird dream last night about a place with a carousel and a clock thing and people, oh people like you never see for real but only for pretend. Woke up this morning and I was there. On my feet, walking like I'd already been up for a really long time.

Stopped when I realized what I was doing, tried to look around a little, but it was all really too much. Kind of overwhelming, you know?

So I found a place where I could sit and watch, try and get my bearings, but then I found I got to wondering.

Am I really here or am I dreaming and just lost in the dreamtime?

Maybe somebody will stop and tell me what's happened if I look small and innocent enough. Works in a lot of places.

"Right first time." Gabe nodded looking pleased with her. "Oh! I see Gabe gave you one of our cards. Would you like me to explain our logo?"

"Sure," Rain said agreeably.

Sadly, the mun is unable to find a picture of the logo.

"Firstly there is the gear which signifies the modern age in which we live." Tycho looks at Rain's clothing and then at Gabe. "... 'We', being Gabe and I that is. I'm not certain what sort of age you live in, though I'm sure it's very nice in its way. Secondly, within the gear is an eye! Which signifies the vigilance with which my associate watch for evil as we walk, without fear, in the whispering darkness to protect the innocent... And hopefully get paid so we can afford things like food and shelter. Thirdly, reflected in the eye is a lightening bolt, which signifies being awesome!"

"You protect the innocent?" Rain said with some awe. "I am really glad to meet you then."

"Generally in the course of our other activities, it gets done."

"Good," Rain said firmly. "I am glad."

"And yourself? What sort of activities do you engage in?"

"I... well... I travel mostly," Rain said slowly. "First with my dad and then running away from him. And I work at whatever odd jobs I can find. Waiting tables or things like that. A lot of them don't like me much, though. I can't keep most jobs too long."

"Perhaps you should try a different line of employment? Working in a bookstore for instance."

Her eyes widened. "Books," she breathed. "I love books. Do you think someone would let me work with them?"

"Because my brain is... kind of broken sometimes? And I'm weird?"

"Do you come from a land of horrendous insect people who try to eat each other as a way of greeting?"

"Gosh, nO!" Rain's eyes were wide with surprise.

"Are there places like that?" she asked nervously.

Re: ACTION POST

"Probably." Tycho answered casually.

"Then you do not know for sure," Rain said firmly. "Were you just trying to frighten me more?"

"I've not been myself but they have to come from somewhere. And I certainly was not just trying to scare you! I was just trying to discern why you thought of yourself as 'weird'."

Re: ACTION POST

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-06-13 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh," she said quietly. "I am sorry. I... people think I am weird because I do not always understand the difference between what is real and what is not."

"My dear young lady. How do you know you're just privy to truths that others are ignorant of?"

Re: ACTION POST

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-06-13 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Because, sometimes I know they are not real?" Rain said cautiously. "But sometimes I do wonder if I am correct and they are not. But in my world... I do not think that is so."

Tycho seems unconvinced, but shrugs.

"You would know your own world better then I, for I suspect we are from diseparate realities. Though if it were me, I'd assume I was simply peering through the misty veil that falls between dimensions."

She smiled. "Misty veil. I like that."
