Had a weird dream last night about a place with a carousel and a clock thing and people, oh people like you never see for real but only for pretend. Woke up this morning and I was there. On my feet, walking like I'd already been up for a really long time.

Stopped when I realized what I was doing, tried to look around a little, but it was all really too much. Kind of overwhelming, you know?

So I found a place where I could sit and watch, try and get my bearings, but then I found I got to wondering.

Am I really here or am I dreaming and just lost in the dreamtime?

Maybe somebody will stop and tell me what's happened if I look small and innocent enough. Works in a lot of places.

I was told this place is called the City. You can stay in any of the apartments that are empty around the square. There are twelve of them.

You don't have to pay for the place right away. Just find a job. I found one by asking around about how to get a job. It wasn't that hard.

The Blue Lady, she's... She watches out for us. All the lost kids.

But sometimes I think she's lost herself.

And this... well, I haven't had a home since I was practically a baby, so I wouldn't even know what one was like.

"Can't leave?" She looked - and felt - a little panicked. "But..."

She dug in her pocket, pulling out a battery that she rolled over and over again in her hand. "Gotta change, gotta change again, gonna be okay, might just be a dream," she muttered to herself.

She held the battery tight in her hand and looked up again. "This is... all very strange."

Gabe shrugged. "Eh, kind of a regular day for us. It'd be easier if Jason... or whoever Tycho claims he is, was here. But it's better than the Mime God. I had to stick my hands in pee for that one."
