021: Not Going Home

I was just heading home when I read that there had been an attack in the forest and everyone should be careful, so I thought maybe I better not go home.

Just telling people so no one will be worried. I'll stay in the Library or maybe up on the roof so I'm still with the stars.

I found a dead hummingbird today. It kind of makes me worried because hummingbirds are sort of magical, you know? They bring open hearts and joy and help create families and the death of one - well that kind of suggests sadness and grief and the closing off of hearts and that Bad Things are coming.

I set it out carefully on a bed of leaves and left a red flower by it so it would be comfortable as it moves on and sang to it, but I still feel sad.

I don't know about hummingbirds being magical, but it makes me sad to see dead animals, too.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it doesn't seem right somehow to just find them dead for no reason.

[identity profile] notrlyjesus.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes...sometimes people hurt them, just because. Even though there aren't wounds left. But in this place, you never know.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I don't understand why people do that. Sure if you need them for food, but just to hurt?

I don't understand that about people.

It makes me so sad.

[identity profile] notrlyjesus.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
...me too. But this probably isn't good for us.

What makes you happy?

Tsk-tsk. Why did it die?

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know.

It was just there. Dead.

[identity profile] mottoaiokomete.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
How sad. Did it fight for its life, I wonder~? How pitiful.

Still, it is fortunate that you remembered its grave.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it good to fight for your life? I think it would be. Even if you lost.

I wanted it to have a nice place rather than just be left on the ground where anyone might stop on it.

[identity profile] mottoaiokomete.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
It is. I fought to live, even if all the doctors said I would die. I triumphed. It is a pity that that hummingbird didn't.

To be remembered at death is an important thing. Can you imagine dying alone? How sad.

Hummingbirds, like many small birds, are sacred to Melodious Molpe; I am sure your song aided its spirit's journey on the Aureate Path, Rain.

Do you require somewhere to stay? I would be happy to lend you my chamber for the evening. I can't imagine my roommates would object, and I have no objections to spending an evening on the floor.

Oh, I hope so!

No, I'm fine here, but thank you so much. And I wouldn't want to put you out. I always sleep on the floor or on the ground anyway.

Marvelous Molpe is the goddess of art, and song, and dancing; there is nothing more fitting.

It wouldn't be an inconvenience at all! Though I certainly won't press you if it would make you uncomfortable. Please promise me, though, that you will keep my offer in mind, if you find yourself in need.

Oh yes! Marvelous Molpe! I will have to remember that! I love all of those things.

Thank you that's very kind. And I will remember your offer!

I... I liked talking with you the other day.

I enjoyed it as well, Rain. I am glad I didn't bore you. We shall have to have lunch again sometime; I would love to hear more about your whorl.

I'm glad you're safe.

And I'm sorry about the hummingbird.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
See? I told you I would be careful.

Me too. It was very beautiful. Even in death.

[identity profile] morethanasuit.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You did, and I believed you but I'm glad you made sure to let us know, thank you.

Did you know they're the only bird that can fly backwards?

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome!

And they hover! I love them. They're so small and fast and delicate.

An attack in the forest?

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
That's what one of the official people said on the network.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
No. It worries me a little 'cause I stay out there alone, just sleeping under the stars.

And I won't go tonight 'cause I don't want anyone to worry about me.

That is very sad about the poor hummingbird...but I'm glad you were able to lay it to rest on the leaves. It's almost like having a funeral for it.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-09-10 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Kind of yes. I thought it was the least I could do.
