032: Halloween Party

You need a date to go to the thing tonight?

I... think I will just maybe watch the City from the roof of the Library then.

Really? Maybe I'll go.

Will it be scary, do you think?

[identity profile] brightshiner.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt there will be any cause for concern, though considering what this place is like, who knows? Since it is supposed to be a masquerade, there will likely be many people in masks, which some find unsettling, but I wouldn't call them "scary".

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I might.

But I can always find a dark corner to hide in if I need to.

[identity profile] brightshiner.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Backing oneself into a corner is hardly the best way of dealing with something dangerous. In this case, staying in plain sight would probably be best, since someone would probably rush to your aid if there was a problem. This city is just full of "heroes" after all.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes 'heroes' are just as scary as the bad guys.

And I hide really really good.

But I think it will be okay.

[identity profile] brightshiner.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. And often twice as useless.

But now there stands another question: what will you go as?

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. I hadn't thought of that.

I have no idea.

[identity profile] brightshiner.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
From what I've seen, some take to wearing strange and outlandish costumes, while others opt for more elegant attire and simply wear a mask.

If anyone were to ask me, not that anyone ever does, I'd say the latter choice tends to be the more flattering of the two. Perhaps you could borrow a nice dress from someone.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-30 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... I have one dress...

But I don't know who I'd borrow from. I think what I have will just have to be enough.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh! Someone offered to loan me a dress!

[identity profile] brightshiner.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
You see, that wasn't so difficult, was it?

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's someone very... unexpected.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Someone who... doesn't like me very much.

[identity profile] brightshiner.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Why is she giving you a dress, then?

[identity profile] brightshiner.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Part of this holiday is apparently about trickery, you know. It would probably be wise to keep that in mind.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't think she'd do that to me.

If only because it would make Tony sad.

[identity profile] brightshiner.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Have it your way then. I'm used to people ignoring my advice anyway, so it would be nothing new.

Who is Tony?

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, she and Tony are in love and Tony is one of my very best friends.

[identity profile] brightshiner.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. Jealousy, then. That raises her potential to do you harm significantly.

[identity profile] livingmyths.livejournal.com 2008-10-31 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe.

I don't think Tony would like her so much if she was like that, though.

And why would she be jealous of me? I'm nothing special.

Men seldom know as much as they they think they know about the women to whom they are attached.

And logic is rarely the governing factor when it comes to such deeply-seated emotional reactions as jealousy. You are close to him, and you are another woman. Oftentimes, that is enough. Perhaps she's simply possessive, and wants him all to herself, or more likely she's insecure in some way, and the fact that this Tony wants you around is, if only in her subconscious mind, seen as cause for anxiety. Either way, there is little you can do about it, other than to stop being friends with Tony, which I somehow doubt you'll want to do.

I offered to stop talking to him.
