096: Just Rain?

I guess I have to think about things some more. Some people who are really important to me don't want to call me River because Rain is really important to them.

So maybe... maybe Rain is good enough. I have to think about it for a while.

Rain turned enough to smile into his eyes. "I still think you're wonderful, though!"

Taking the chance given here, he kissed her. "I'm just plain ol' Mat."

She kissed back. "Plain and wonderful."

"Alright then. I'll be wonderful if you will be too."

Rain considered that for a moment, smiling, then nodded. "We'll be wonderful together."

"Well good for us." He laughed and clicked again to keep the horse from getting too close to the edge of the river.

She snuggled back into him and let herself enjoy the ride. It was wonderful and exciting and at the same time felt so natural. "I like this so much," she murmured happily.

"We'll have to name her so we can keep her around then. That way we can do this more often." He held her close as he gently guided the horse along.

She turned again. "We can keep her?"

He smiled and shrugged. "I don't see why we can't. I did pay for her already."

She nearly fell off the horse turning around to see him. "Mat! A horse must cost an awful lot of money!"

"Good horses are always worth the price." Besides, he knew he had the money. Mat tightened his grip on her a little more to keep her from falling as he laughed at her reaction.

She scrambled back around, letting him steady her. "So what are you going to name her?"

"I don't know. You'll have to help me." He shifted her a little so that way she was balanced again.

"I've never named a horse before," she admitted. "I don't know what sorts of things they're supposed to be called."

"They can be named anything you want them to be. Anything at all."

"Like... Feather?" she said teasingly.

He thought about that and nodded. "One of my sisters named a horse Feather once."

"Really?" she said curiously. "I was joking. What horse could be a Feather?"

"One that was gentle and had a soft coat like a feather. It was her turn and that was the name she liked." He remembered teasing her about it too.

"Huh... that makes sense." Rain looked thoughtfully at the horse they were riding. "I don't think she's a Feather. Maybe a Chocolate something."

"A Chocolate something, hm? It's good for her coloring." He looked over Rain's shoulder at the horse's head.

"You have to help too," she said with a grin.

"Oops. I forgot all about that." He laughed and thought for a moment. "Chocolate something... It should be something for her gentle nature."

"Chocolate Kisses?" she said with a giggle. "No, we couldn't call her something so silly."
