I'll be waiting for you.

Mat was more than a little glad for his luck. If it hadn't been for that, he wasn't sure he would have made up to the library so fast. His foxhead medallion was hanging outside his shirt as he stepped out onto the roof looking for Rain.

Rain saw him coming and smiled a little shyly. "Mat?"

He smiled back and nodded. "I am. You're Rain?"

"Yes," she said nodding herself. "It's nice to actually meet you."

"Yesterday was a little surprising but, I don't mind it so much now." Mat almost grinned. "You're even prettier in person."

She blushed. "Thank you. And you... well, I'd probably have been too shy to talk to you if I'd seen you in person first."

He laughed quietly. "I'm sorry. But you being shy adds something special. How long have you been here? In the City, I mean."

"About five months. Mostly spent here or in the forest," she said with a smile. "My friends just helped make me a sort of house there. It's beautiful."

"The forest? I've been in there before. I practice with my quarterstaff or my bow there." Neither of which he had with him right now. He nodded past her. "Were you watching anything from here?"

Rain nodded. "Yes. I know some people don't like it there, but I do. I always feel safer in the forest than in a building or something."

She gazed out over the City. "Nothing in particular. I just like to be up high. Sometimes I stretch out and watch the clouds or the stars at night. Sometimes I just like to watch the people down there and imagine about them."

"The place I grew up in had trees close by. All around really. My da taught me about being in the forests." Mat looked out at the view.

"It's nice up here. At home, things changed and I couldn't watch the clouds or the stars anymore. I miss it sometimes. Even though I get the chance to do that again here."

"Oh, that must have been nice," Rain said a little wistfully.

"What happened at home?" she asked.

He let out a sigh. "A war."

"Oh," she said quietly and reached out to touch his arm gently. "I'm so sorry."

"If I could be, I'd just be a simple gambler. Or maybe a farmer like my da." He touched the silver medallion hanging around his neck. "It's not that easy though."

She looked at the medallion curiously, then looked up at him, the tips of her fingers still resting on his arm. "Is there anything I can do to help?"

He smiled at her. "No. There's nothing that can be done from here." Mat nodded to indicate they should sit before he does so.

"What is it like where you live, Rain?"

She sat gracefully next to him. "I, well... I don't come from any particular place. I... my father traveled from place to place. We lived in the car when he had one or, more usually on the streets or in a shelter."

"So your home was the world." He smiled again. "Did you like it? Not having one place to be settled in?"

She looked away, out over the City. "No. It was... hard. And frightening."

[ooc: And I'm off to dinner with friends, back in a bit.]

He nodded as he watched her. "I know what that's like. I haven't really been settled in a place I can call home for a few years now."

[ooc: Okay! Have fun!]

"I like having a home," she said softly. "A place where I belong. I never had that before."

"I'm glad you have that here." He looked away. "It took some getting used to but sometimes I like it too. When I'm not thinking about what's happening with my friends back home."

"I'm sorry," she said again. "That must be so hard. I... don't have anyone back home, so that makes it easier."
